Cost Accountant (6-month contract)

Our client is looking for a meticulous and analytical Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in analyzing cost data, monitoring inventory valuations, and producing accurate financial reports.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and report on manufacturing costs, including labor, materials, and overhead.
• Develop and maintain cost accounting systems, such as standard costing and job order costing.
• Investigate and explain variances between actual and standard costs.
• Maintain and reconcile perpetual inventory records with physical counts.
• Analyze inventory valuations, including identifying obsolescence and slow‑moving stock.
• Collaborate with production and operations teams to optimize inventory levels.
• Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts.
• Provide financial data and analysis to support strategic decision‑making.
• Prepare and present reports on cost of goods sold (COGS), profitability, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiency.
• Work cross‑functionally to ensure accurate and timely data collection.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
• Proven experience as a Cost Accountant or in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) is highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and VLOOKUP).
