About our client: A leading multinational engineering company headquartered in China.

About the Role

We are supporting our Shanghai office in hiring an experienced Construction Superintendent – Mechanical for major copper mining and milling projects in Botswana, Southern Africa. The successful candidate will oversee field construction, contractor coordination, and mechanical installation activities, particularly the installation and alignment of ball grinding mill systems.

This position requires strong engineering expertise, hands-on leadership, and a proven ability to deliver medium to large-scale mining or heavy industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise all mechanical construction works and ensure alignment with engineering specifications, standards, and safety requirements.
• Lead installation, alignment, and quality control activities for ball grinding mills and other key mill equipment.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate work fronts, monitor contractor performance, and support schedule-driven execution.
• Resolve field engineering issues and participate in constructability reviews.
• Prepare progress updates, highlight risks, and provide technical support to internal teams and project managers.
• Work closely with contractors, suppliers, engineering consultants, and local authorities, including the Ministry of Mines & Labor.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese to liaise with China-based project teams, contractors, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering or construction experience in mining or heavy industrial environments.
• 5+ years of experience executing or supporting medium to large-scale mining projects.
• Background in copper mining, mill construction, or mineral processing environments.
• Mandatory: Hands-on experience with installation or maintenance of ball grinding mills.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, BIM, and Microsoft Project.
• Strong computer skills and experience handling technical documentation.
• Experience working with China-based construction contractors.
