Job description
ROLE PURPOSE:

The utilities engineer ensures reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of black utilities and facilities systems that support pharmaceutical manufacturing. This includes daily monitoring, safe operation, first‑level troubleshooting, maintenance and optimization of boilers, chillers, air compressors, diesel generators, switchgear, cooling towers, wastewater treatment, and associated systems.

Operation Duties:
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct daily inspections, equipment rounds, and first‑level troubleshooting; execute minor repairs on shift.
  • Operate, monitor, and adjust Boiler, Chiller & Cooling Tower, Air Compressor, DG Set, Switchgear, and Wastewater Plant for stable parameters (pressure, temperature, flow, power quality, treatment performance).
  • Execute start‑up, shutdown, and restart procedures per approved SOPs, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Prepare and submit daily utility area reports if required.
  • Collaborate closely with cleaning utilities, HVAC and Production teams for issue resolution and schedule alignment.
Safety, EHS & Compliance:
  • Act as a Safety Team member: enforce LOTO, Permit‑to‑Work (PTW), confined space entry, hot work, and other safe work practices.
  • Conduct safety checks and hazard assessments; participate in emergency drills and incident investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP, SOPs, site EHS policies, and local statutory requirements.
  • Approve/review safety permits where authorized and maintain high standards of housekeeping in utility areas.
Environment Monitor:
  • Operate and monitor Waste treatment where applicable, adhering to emissions and waste handling procedures.
Reliability, Optimization & Projects:
  • Identify and implement improvement projects on utilities operations/maintenance to drive energy and cost savings (e.g., chiller sequencing, boiler efficiency tuning, compressor leak reduction, power factor correction).
  • Perform basic root cause analysis and propose corrective actions for recurring faults or critical alarms.
  • Assist commissioning engineers with system commissioning/decommissioning, system readiness checks, performance testing, and documentation.
Documentation & System:
  • Create, complete, and close work orders in One‑Maximo (CMMS) with timely documentation of PM/CM, repair actions, parts usage, and findings.
  • Maintain logbooks, checklists, calibration/verification records, and shift reports to cGMP standards.
  • Support change control, deviation recording, and audit readiness for EHS and quality inspections.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum 10 years relevant maintenance management experience in pharmaceutical or related manufacturing, with hands‑on exposure to utilities equipment.
  • Experience: 5–7+ years in black utilities operation and maintenance (boiler, chiller, air compressor, DG, switchgear, wastewater plant) within a cGMP or industrial manufacturing environment. Pharma experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of boiler water treatment, chiller refrigerants and controls, compressed air quality, power distribution.
  • Licenses/Certifications (preferred): Local statutory Boiler Attendant certification, confined space entrant/attendant, LOTO, PTW.
  • Strong communication, comprehension, and problem‑solving skills; able to work independently with limited supervision in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Display a good working attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to follow leadership directives.
