Job description

The Commodities Operations team is responsible for providing front to back support for all Commodities, both financial and physical, including Exchange Traded Derivatives (ETD) & Over The Counter (OTC) commodity derivative transactions, covering products such as Base Metals, Precious Metals, Bulks, Oil, Power, Gas, Emissions, etc. The team is responsible for confirmations, settlements and reconciliation of Commodities transactions.

The Commodities Operations Senior Analyst is an intermediate level position within the APAC Commodities Operations team responsible for providing support to the business and our clients, processing Commodities confirmations and settlements, reconciliation of physical metals, and improving process efficiency. You will have the opportunity to recommend creative suggestions on how to improve processes to reduce risk, minimise losses from potential failed internal processes and inadequate controls. This is a great opportunity to join a high performing team that provides daily support to our Global Front Office team and Clients.

This position offers excellent training opportunities to continuously learn and develop across the wide range of Commodity products and work closely with all the other stakeholders that support the Commodity Business. This role will include assisting the APAC Commodities Operations Managers with supervision and oversight responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process commodities trade confirmations and settlements in a timely, accurate and effective manner.
  • Physical Inventory reconciliation (i.e. India Gold).
  • Investigation, escalation, and resolution of cash breaks. Coordination with the Global Cash Breaks team.
  • Liaise with Global Commodities Stakeholders (Trading, Sales, Middle office, Legal and Technology) when required to resolve issues and support the business.
  • Provide support to Front Office Sales & Trading for all commodity confirmations and settlements related queries.
  • Identify control deficiencies, resolve issues and escalate control gaps & issues to senior management when appropriate, playing an integral part in risk mitigation and procedural documentation/review.
  • Approval responsibilities for both STP and Manual Payments release.
  • Overseeing and developing our APAC Commodities Operations Team into subject matter experts in providing top tier Trading Desk Support whilst strengthening the overall group's control mindset.
Risk Management
  • Overseeing and executing critical core operations activities to maintain a culture and environment where processes, risks and controls are continually monitored, and potential risks escalated on a timely basis.
  • Daily Collaboration across Global Clients, Trading, and Operations teams to provide solutions and identify/resolve root cause.
  • Acting as key point of contact for the team across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifying trends, synergies and weaknesses across products and regions.
  • Recommending control enhancements as needed.
Organizational Transformation
  • Providing input to simplify, improve and measure processes by delivering enhancements to the control environment, and the customer journey with input to design techniques and digital automation.
  • Providing valuable input into strategic platform re‑engineering initiatives, reducing manual touch points and aligning tech delivery vs. business goals and wallet share optimization.
  • Providing input into initiatives to continuously improve straight‑through processing (STP) rates, including the use of robotics, workflow and other innovative re‑engineering techniques.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Engaging in discussions and relationship management activities as required to support the Business.
  • Working cross‑function to ensuring compliance with various regulatory initiatives related to the business.

Qualifications and Skills
  • 5‑8 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Relevant Degree and/or equivalent experience in Finance or fast‑paced working environment is preferred.
  • Understanding of confirmations and settlements processes as well as operational risk. A general knowledge of Commodities is desirable.
  • A good knowledge of OTC long‑form Confirmations, ISDA & CSA is desirable.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, proactive and independent.
  • Strong, influential communicator who is articulate and concise, demonstrated success interacting with senior management both in the business, corporate functions as well as the Operations, Business and Technology environments.
  • Strong risk management and control mindset. Ability to identify gaps in controls and provide solutions to bridge those gaps.
  • Provides evaluative judgment based on analysis of information in complicated, unique and dynamic situations; draws on diverse range of internal and external sources.
