Job summary

Soundlines Consultancy is seeking a Pushback Driver / Aircraft Towing Driver to safely operate pushback tractors and related GSE for aircraft pushback and towing at client airports. You will perform pushback and towing in accordance with approved procedures and coordinate with cockpit crews, headset operators, ramp teams and airside control.

Minimal qualifications include ITI/ Diploma / High School or equivalent, a valid airport driving licence, and prior GCC airport/ground-handling experience

Qualifications

  • ITI/ Diploma or equivalent qualification required.
  • Valid airport driving licence appropriate for the role.
  • Previous pushback/aircraft towing experience preferred.
  • Experience with pushback tractors, tow tractors or similar GSE advantageous.
  • GCC airport/ground-handling experience is a plus.
  • Basic English for operational coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate pushback tractors and other GSE for aircraft pushback and towing.
  • Perform pushback/towing in line with procedures and approvals.
  • Coordinate with cockpit crew, ramp team and apron control during operations.
  • Conduct pre-operation checks of GSE to ensure safety and serviceability.
  • Connect/disconnect tow bars or towing equipment as required.
  • Follow aircraft-specific procedures, safety clearances and routes.
  • Maintain awareness of aircraft, vehicles, personnel and obstructions.
  • Report unsafe conditions or incidents to supervisor immediately.
  • Assist with aircraft turnaround and positioning of equipment when needed.
  • Operate vehicles in line with airside driving rules and safety regs.
  • Maintain radio communications with cockpit and ground operations.
  • Follow SOPs, airline requirements, airport regulations and safety procedures.
  • Keep stands and ramp areas clean and safe.
  • Complete required checks, inspections and documentation.
  • Work with Ramp Agents, Supervisors, and other ground-handling staff.
  • Adapt to 24/7 airport environment, including night and holiday shifts.
  • Support other ramp/ground-handling activities as assigned.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

  • Safely operate pushback tractors and other Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for aircraft pushback and towing operations.
  • Perform aircraft pushback and towing activities in accordance with approved airport, airline and company procedures.
  • Coordinate with cockpit crew, headset operators, ramp team and apron/airside control during pushback and towing operations.
  • Conduct pre-operation checks of pushback tractors, tow bars and related GSE to ensure equipment is safe and serviceable.
  • Connect and disconnect tow bars or other approved aircraft towing equipment as required.
  • Follow aircraft-specific pushback procedures, safety clearances, speed limits and designated ramp routes.
  • Maintain continuous awareness of aircraft, vehicles, personnel, equipment and other obstructions during ramp operations.
  • Immediately stop or report any unsafe condition, obstruction, equipment malfunction or operational incident to the concerned supervisor.
  • Assist with aircraft turnaround activities, including positioning of GSE, baggage/cargo equipment and other ramp equipment when required.
  • Operate airport vehicles and GSE in accordance with airside driving rules and safety regulations.
  • Maintain effective radio/communication procedures with cockpit crew and ground operations personnel.
  • Follow Swissport/company SOPs, airline requirements, airport regulations and all applicable safety and security procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working area around aircraft stands and ramp areas.
  • Complete required operational checks, equipment inspections and documentation.
  • Work effectively with Ramp Agents, Ramp Supervisors, GSE Operators and other airport ground-handling personnel.
  • Perform duties in a 24/7 airport environment, including rotational shifts, nights, weekends and public holidays.
  • Support other ramp/ground-handling activities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a high level of safety awareness, concentration, discipline and responsibility throughout operations.

Preferred candidate profile


  • ITI / Diploma / High School or equivalent qualification.
  • Valid driving licence appropriate for the position and airport requirements.
  • Previous experience as a Pushback Driver, Aircraft Towing Driver, GSE Operator, Ramp Driver or Airport Ground Handling Driver preferred.
  • Experience operating pushback tractors, tow tractors, tow bars or similar specialized airport GSE will be an advantage.
  • Candidates with previous airport, airline, ramp operations or ground-handling experience preferred.
  • Good understanding of aircraft pushback, towing and ramp safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of airside driving rules, aircraft stand operations and GSE safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cockpit crew and ground operations teams.
  • Basic English communication skills required for operational coordination.
  • Strong safety awareness and ability to follow SOPs and instructions accurately.
  • Physically fit and medically suitable for airside/ramp operations.
  • Able to maintain high concentration while operating specialized vehicles around aircraft.
  • Responsible, punctual, reliable and disciplined with a strong team-working attitude.
  • Willing to work rotational shifts, night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
  • Previous experience in GCC airport/airline/ground-handling operations will be an added advantage.
  • Candidates with valid airport driving permits/GSE licences, where applicable, will be preferred.
