Traffic and Mobility Assessments
- Support traffic engineering and mobility assessments across intersections, corridors, highways, access points, public transport interfaces, and congestion hotspots.
- Review traffic counts and turning-movement information.
- Analyze travel times, observed queues, speed data, and other operational information.
- Review crash information, detector data, traffic video, and available field evidence.
- Identify operational deficiencies and factors affecting road network performance.
- Conduct field inspections in live urban traffic environments.
- Document existing traffic operations and geometric constraints.
- Assess lane utilization, pedestrian conditions, access conflicts, parking impacts, and other operational factors.
- Maintain accurate records of field observations and analytical inputs.
Traffic Improvement Development
- Develop and review lane-use modifications and turn-lane improvements.
- Assess access-management opportunities.
- Recommend signing and road-marking improvements where appropriate.
- Support development of signal-timing improvement concepts.
- Evaluate intersection channelization and localized capacity improvements.
- Identify recurring corridor bottlenecks and progression problems.
- Assess queue spillback and operational conflicts.
- Identify opportunities for multimodal transportation improvements.
- Apply engineering judgment to develop solutions appropriate to actual operating conditions.
Analysis and Engineering Support
- Support senior engineers with Synchro and other traffic-analysis activities.
- Use GIS, spreadsheets, and other analytical tools to assess transportation improvement options.
- Assist with comparison of alternative traffic-management treatments.
- Support before-and-after evaluations of implemented improvements.
- Help develop performance measures for traffic and mobility initiatives.
- Apply current transportation engineering practices to operational assessments.
- Adapt international traffic operations and mobility practices to Riyadh's operating environment.
- Explore data-driven and innovative approaches to transportation problems where appropriate.
Technical Documentation
- Prepare technical sketches and engineering exhibits.
- Develop maps and photographic records supporting traffic assessments.
- Prepare calculations, tables, and concise engineering narratives.
- Clearly document observed deficiencies and proposed treatments.
- Assist with corridor studies and transportation assessment reports.
- Contribute to technical memoranda, presentations, guidelines, and implementation recommendations.
- Maintain traceable records of analytical inputs, assumptions, field observations, and recommendations.
Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Consider wider network impacts when evaluating proposed improvements.
- Participate in site meetings and technical workshops.
- Attend coordination sessions with RCRC and other project stakeholders.
- Work within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Accept and incorporate technical direction and structured review.
- Support implementation monitoring and field verification.
- Assess whether completed improvements are operating as intended.
What Required Skills You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 6-8 years of professional experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, mobility analysis, roadway operations, or related transportation work.
- Working knowledge of traffic engineering principles.
- Understanding of intersection operations, roadway capacity, queues, and lane utilization.
- Knowledge of traffic control, access management, and basic traffic signal operations.
- Experience reviewing traffic data and converting field observations into clear engineering findings.
- Ability to develop potential transportation improvement concepts based on operational evidence.
- Ability and willingness to conduct field investigations in live urban traffic environments.
- Ability to document site conditions accurately.
- Familiarity with Synchro and SimTraffic, Vissim, HCS, or comparable traffic-analysis tools is desirable.
- Demonstrated analytical aptitude.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or GIS tools is advantageous.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to prepare concise technical documentation.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining quality and schedule requirements.
- Ability to apply international traffic operations and mobility practices within Riyadh's operating environment.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring
- Previous urban transportation or traffic-management project experience in Saudi Arabia or the wider GCC.
- Exposure to corridor studies or traffic impact studies.
- Experience with signal timing or road-safety assessments.
- Exposure to public transport priority, parking, or construction traffic management.
- Experience using GIS, Python, or Power BI.
- Familiarity with traffic-video analytics, probe data, or emerging mobility-data tools.
- Interest in smart mobility, ITS, and data-driven traffic management.
- Interest in innovative traffic operational treatments.
- Engineer-in-Training or equivalent professional-development status is an advantage.
- Arabic language skills are desirable but not required.
