The Senior Health and Safety Manager will provide the leadership framework connecting project policies with daily construction behavior. Effective intervention will prevent injuries, protect project continuity, strengthen regulatory assurance, and embed safer decisions from design through construction and future operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the project health and safety strategy, policies, plans, and objectives.
• Align the safety program with legal requirements, corporate standards, recognized practices, and ISO 45001.
• Establish governance arrangements, committees, responsibilities, and reporting lines across all contracts.
• Define leading and lagging performance indicators and monitor results against approved targets.
• Implement a health and safety management system suitable for heavy‑civil and structural construction.

• Establish controls for tunnels, underground works, and confined‑space entry.

• Ensure risk assessments, method statements, and permit‑to‑work systems are properly implemented.

• Oversee statutory notifications, submissions, and health and safety reports.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor 's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Recognised professional qualification such as the NEBOSH Diploma, Level 6 safety qualification, or equivalent.
• Professional membership with IOSH, IIRSM, or another relevant body.
• Minimum 15 years of health and safety experience within the Construction industry.
• Substantial exposure to major roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, and structural projects.
• Proven leadership experience on a large or mega infrastructure development.
• Background overseeing multiple contractors or joint‑venture delivery environments.
• Strong understanding of highway and heavy‑civil construction techniques.
• Knowledge of temporary works, groundworks, structural construction, and tunnelling hazards.
• Detailed familiarity with national regulations and international safety standards.
• Ability to influence managers, contractors, supervisors, and site operatives.
