Job Summary
The QA / QC Engineer ensures that work and projects are delivered based on good work practices and project specifications to guarantee completion within the given time limits, with quality that meets or exceeds client expectations. They implement international quality standards, plans, and procedures across all construction activities. Additionally, they assist in developing the Project Quality Management System by establishing procedures, plans, and work instructions as needed.
Job Responsibilities 1
Assist the Project QA / QC Manager or Senior QA / QC Engineer in implementing the quality management system on site according to the approved Project Quality Plan and IMS Procedures.
Prepare Work Inspection Requests (WIR) for each construction activity and submit them to the consultant to ensure all activities are covered.
Check all incoming materials against project specifications and approved submittals.
Monitor WIRs and test reports, updating the Quality Manager and site team on their status.
Establish and monitor control of QA / QC Plans, Method Statements, and Test Plans before project commencement and during execution to meet quality requirements and client expectations.
Ensure control procedures for documents are implemented, and all approved documents are distributed through the document control system.
Review Inspection and Test Plans, method statements, and test plans submitted for approval as per the approved ITP plan.
Prepare WIRs for each construction activity and submit them to the consultant to ensure comprehensive coverage of site activities.
Job Responsibilities 2
Verify that work inspections are conducted as per plan, advise the construction team on corrective actions to prevent work rejection, and aim for a 90% pass rate during initial inspections.
Ensure all materials are checked according to project specifications and approved submittals.
Inspect materials internally before presenting them for external inspection, raising NCRs to suppliers for substandard materials, and recording inspections in the monthly Quality report.
Monitor WIRs and test reports, updating management and departments on project status.
Maintain records of all inspections and test results, ensuring availability of test reports and certificates, especially for steel and concrete pours.
Ensure logs are maintained alongside test reports for all tests as per the testing matrix.
Check daily concrete pour cards and coordinate with storekeepers and QS for related documentation.
Additional Responsibilities 3
Job Knowledge & Skills
Knowledge of standards such as ISO 9001, QCS, SMACNA, ASHRAE, NFPA, etc., and technical experience in QC issues. Familiarity with local employment laws and regulations, and in-depth knowledge of QMS or IMS. ERP skills, preferably SAP, are required.
Job Experience
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in similar roles; GCC experience is a plus.
Competencies
Collaboration, accountability, resilience, quality assurance, leadership, QA reviews and inspections, audits, control and conformance, SOPs.
Education
Professional degree in engineering (MMUP registration or UPDA), Lead Auditor certification (ISO 9001), ASQC certification (CQM / CQE), or a Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as Civil Engineering.
