Are you ready to grow with us? At our KWS Vegetables Italy division we are looking for aBreeder Tomato to join our Vetegetable squad. Based at KWS Vegetables Breeding station in Noceto, Italy ,the Breeder Tomato will contribute to the execution of our Breeding team in Italy. They will report to the Head of Breeding within the Vegetables business unit of KWS.

Job purpose

Develop commercial successful varieties for specific market segments in one/more segment in an efficient way

Your Tasks:

· Development: Optimize efficiency and output of the breeding program (i.e. ensuring a constant flow of commercially successful varieties) by developing and implementing (new) technologies, equipment and breeding methods within the crop improvement process by using and generating relevant genetic material in the targeted environment .

· Management information: Advise and collaborate with the Head Of Breeding and Local Crop Team on both short- and long-term crop-specific breeding strategies. Actively participate in Crop Team discussions to enhance information exchange and support effective decision-making

· Breeding plan: Formulate, design and, after the approval of the Head of Breeding, execute the crop specific breeding plan, in line with the strategic decision of the company.

· Budget responsibility: Develop and implement operational plans for the breeding program, aligned with crop strategy and departmental guidelines, following approval from the Head of Breeding.

· Management: Lead and coordinate breeding activities across local and international sites in alignment with the breeding plan, procedures, and KWS Vegetables’ corporate values. Ensure team efficiency through structured planning, clear communication, and strategic resource allocation to deliver high-quality outcomes

· Support: Provide structured and ad hoc technical and product expertise to all departments, enabling informed decision-making and supporting operational efficiency across functions.

· HRM: Manage, direct, and coordinate after approval of the Head of Breeding and in cooperation with HR, the personnel flow within the breeding team located on the site and on external sites, including appraisal, training and development and career planning by using HR instruments, guidelines, procedures and advise in order to select and maintain competent employees and ensure an efficient and effective functioning breeding team.

Your profile:

· MSc+ 5 years’ experience or PhD+ 3 years’ experience in plant breeding or genetics.

· In depth working knowledge of horticulture, agronomy, genetics, pathology, physiology and molecular genetics.

· Computer skills (data management, management information systems, databases, spread sheets).

· Language skills: Italian (must) & English (must).

· Experience in management, organization and planning.

· Ability to work independently.

· Excellent communication and pragmatic skills.

· Analytical skills, structured and solution-oriented work in a team as well as a quick grasp and a high degree of personal responsibility, commitment and flexibility.

· Team player with hands-on mentality.

· Remark: National & International travel: app. 30-40%
