Overview

Location: Were flexible on location you can be based in Czechia Italy France or Germany and work closely with colleagues across Europe.

John Crane, a global leader with operations in 22 European entities, is seeking an experienced European VAT Specialist to join our in-house finance team.

We’re looking for someone with solid VAT experience (including audit exposure) who enjoys solving complex VAT challenges but doesn’t necessarily need to be a senior-level manager. You’ll work closely with our European finance teams and our Global VAT Director to ensure compliance, support audits, and advise on cross-border VAT matters.

What youll do

  • Be the main contact for VAT-related questions from colleagues and advisors
  • Monitor changes to VAT legislation across Europe and ensure compliance in all jurisdictions
  • Support VAT audits and investigations
  • Help maintain and improve VAT processes within ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Collaborate with local finance teams and Shared Service Centres to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Provide VAT advice on cross-border transactions, supply chain changes, and business initiatives
  • Assist in VAT training for finance and operational teams

Qualifications : What you bring

  • Degree in finance, accounting, tax, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in European VAT, ideally within a multinational or Big 4 environment
  • Strong knowledge of EU VAT legislation and local rules (Italy, Czechia, Germany, France, Netherlands)
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP an advantage) and VAT reporting tools
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative approach
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English
