The role requires at least five years of experience, particularly in offshore projects, along with a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential, along with familiarity with electrical modeling software.

Hill International, Inc. invites applications for the Electrical Engineer – Offshore (Energy, Oil & Gas Project) role.

Reporting to: Engineering Coordinator

Location: Italy

Position Summary: The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment used in oil and gas facilities, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with regulatory and company standards across all project phases—from design and construction to commissioning and operations.

Responsibilities
  • Design and engineering: review and consent to the design of electrical power distribution systems (LV, MV, HV); review single‑line diagrams, load lists, cable schedules, grounding, and lighting layouts; approve selected electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, MCCs, UPS, batteries, motors); perform electrical system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination); ensure compliance with industry standards (IEC, NEC, IEEE, API, NEMA, ATEX).
  • Project execution and procurement: review and approve vendor documents and technical specifications; prepare material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and equipment datasheets; interface with engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction teams to ensure design integration.
  • Construction and commissioning: supervise installation of electrical systems; conduct inspection, testing, and pre‑commissioning; participate in factory and site acceptance tests; troubleshoot issues during installation and commissioning.
  • Operations and maintenance: support operations teams in troubleshooting and maintaining electrical systems; review condition monitoring data (IR thermography, insulation resistance tests); participate in root cause analysis of electrical failures; ensure asset integrity and optimize system performance over the asset lifecycle.
Skills & Competencies
  • In‑depth knowledge of electrical design for oil & gas environments (onshore/offshore).
  • Familiarity with hazardous area classification and equipment selection.
  • Experience with electrical system modeling software (ETAP, SKM, DigSILENT).
  • Understanding of electrical protection, earthing, lighting, and lightning protection.
  • Strong analytical, coordination, and communication skills.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Work experience of at least five years in electrical engineering after graduation.
  • Minimum of five years of offshore experience, with at least three to five years on offshore projects.
  • Excellent spoken and written English, and proven ability to produce technical reports.
