The project analyzes plant-based, fermented, fungal, algae-based, insect-based, and cultivated meat/seafood alternative proteins as levers for making the European food system more sustainable. The expansion of these products requires new value chain governance models, transparency, traceability, and adequate regulatory frameworks. The activities include: a review of literature and policies; data analysis on production, markets, and impacts; stakeholder engagement along the value chain; regulatory mapping and development of policy recommendations; international case studies and the production of scientific outputs. The researcher will conduct statistical-economic analyses, collect data through interviews and focus groups, perform multivariate analyses, and prepare reports, contributing to the development of business models and strategies for integrating alternative proteins into European agri-food value chains.
