Consultant Microbiologist or Consultant in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. The post involves day-to-day clinical microbiology and infectious disease services across Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn NHS Foundation Trust (QEHKL) and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUHFT), with cross-cover for the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA) across Norfolk.

• Provide a comprehensive microbiology service for QEHKL and the EPA, including cross-cover for infection prevention and control.
• Spend time at NNUHFT and QEHKL as agreed, participating in a single rota for out-of-hours cover across Norfolk (anticipated frequency of 1 in 8 at full capacity).
• Cover clinical sessions at QEHKL, with rotations to provide Infection Prevention and Control or Antibiotic Stewardship roles by mutual agreement.
• Offer consultation and advisory services to medical colleagues in QEHKL, as well as GPs and other healthcare professionals in Primary Care.
• Provide on-call advisory services to James Paget University Hospital and NNUH, in addition to primary care.
• Liaise with medical staff in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and postgraduate activities at NNUH and QEHKL.
• Contribute to Royal College of Pathologists continuing medical education; study leave expenses provided by the Trust in line with national terms and conditions of service.

The EPA Department of Microbiology is a large and busy unit expanding to meet NHS microbiological needs. It provides a county-wide diagnostic microbiology service as part of the EPA and holds full UKAS accreditation in Microbiology and Virology. All Trust and Community microbiology workloads are consolidated at NNUHFT, on behalf of the EPA. Collaboration with Quadram Institute is encouraged; there are no dedicated research PAs in this post, but applicants with research interests are welcome to discuss opportunities.

The Department moved to newly refurbished laboratories at Norwich Research Park, Colney, in 2010, near the main hospital site, the University of East Anglia, and the Quadram Institute.
