An opportunity has arisen for appointment to the role of Practice Learning Facilitator within the North West School of Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation. The role will enable the successful candidate to work as part of the team to support pharmacy education reforms, and on a number of well-established work streams within the Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Workforce transformation agenda in the region. The PLFs will also be tasked with developing new initiatives and programmes to further develop our strong training and development ethos.

We are looking for pharmacy technician educators to work with the Regional Lead and existing team to support the infrastructure to quality assure programmes to ensure a consistent and integrated approach to developing education and training, across sectors. The successful PLF will be accountable, through the Integrated PTPT Facilitation Manager, School of Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation, and is responsible for providing professional leadership, together with expertise, advice and support.

Main duties of the job

The Pharmacy Practice Learning Facilitators are accountable to the Pharmacy Dean, through the local office Pharmacy Technician and Support Staff Senior Manager, and will support the development and quality assurance of the following:

  • Pharmacy Education & Training Local Office
  • Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician Programme
  • Non-registered pharmacy staff
  • Non-registered staff non-pharmacy staff
  • Patient and Public Involvement initiatives
  • Pharmacy Technical Services Workforce
  • Future roles of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support Staff

The post holder will be responsible for the promotion and improvement of pharmacy practice placement and work-based learning quality and capacity across the local office area.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Job responsibilities

Applicants should be registered pharmacy professionals, will need significant prior experience in developing and delivering training and must have strong presentation and training delivery skills. The applicant should be able to work to a high level, working both independently but also engaging others in the team and be able to work at both a local and regional level.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Pharmacy Technician, registered with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science, NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services Skills (or equivalent qualification), plus experiential learning/education to degree level or equivalent
  • Specialist knowledge/awareness of pharmacy practice across all sectors
  • Supervisory / Management training/equivalent experience
  • Training and development qualification to support learning in the workplace
Knowledge and experience
  • Experience of working in a senior pharmacy educator role, with evidence of planning and delivering Pharmacy Technician and Support Staff training programmes and projects on time and within budget where impact of delivery extends beyond own area of work, externally to NHS England, e.g. working together with NHS Trusts, Community Pharmacy and within Further Education institutions
  • Staff supervision of a team or group of learners
  • Experience of reviewing /gathering information to support reports/ recommendations for change
  • Experience of managing training placements/assessing staff
  • Highly developed skills in teaching and assessing students
  • Good understanding of quality assurance principles

  • Encourages effective communication between pharmacy stakeholders, across all sectors whilst proactively seeking out different styles and methods of communication to assist longer terms needs and aims
  • Ability to prioritise own work effectively
  • Handling and maintaining large volumes of data, on own initiative without direct supervision
  • Responds positively and flexibly to differing workloads and priorities. This may be as a result of changing national and local policies
  • Provide and receive sensitive or contentious information and support the dissemination of such information to a wide range of differing groups both within and external to pharmacy networks/stakeholders at a senior level. Such information may include student details, financial statements and course evaluation. This involves frequent use of a high level of interpersonal and communication skills to aid interpretation and understanding and context application of such information to a varying level of seniority
  • Experience of creating and giving presentations to a varied group of internal and external stakeholders conveying complex concepts and where challenge is likely. This includes; Chief Pharmacists, Chief Pharmacy Technicians, Education and Training Pharmacy Technicians along with Pharmacy networks across all sectors within pharmacy. Challenges may arise due to localised service needs and availability of resources to support education and training within their organisation.
  • Ability to think strategically, laterally and analytically, supporting the development of partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and maintains these. These would include pharmacy colleagues across the North West, NHS Trusts, Community Pharmacy, GP Practices, Integrated Care Systems, local pharmacy workforce groups along with a range of pharmacy education and training providers
