A local healthcare practice in Burton upon Trent is seeking a Medical Secretary for a part-time role of 25 hours per week. The candidate should possess strong communication skills, IT proficiency, and experience in the NHS is preferred. We are looking for a Medical Secretary to join our friendly team at Yoxall Health Centre working 25 hours over 5 days.
You must be a team player with good communication and IT skills.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in the NHS with a good knowledge of medical terminology, although full training will be given.
Your responsibility's will include:
As the Medical Secretary your role is a key link between our clinical team and patients.
Yoxall Health Centre is a small rural practice located nearby to Lichfield and Burton on Trent, with a list size of around 4600. With a team of 3 GP's, Pharmacy team, Nursing team, Dispensers, Receptionists and Administration team.
Job Summary:
To provide secretarial support tothe clinical and practice team.
To provide an efficient copytyping and word processing service for GPs and Health Professionals asrequired. This includes the typing of clinical letters, patient referrals,memorandums, etc. in an accurate manner.
To ensure that fast track andurgent referrals are processed in an efficient manner and all other work isprioritised and processed as appropriate.
To provide assistance withprivate work, ensuring that medical reports are completed accurately and thatany invoices are raised from the Finance Assistant.
To answer the telephone andeither deal with the callers issues or pass the call to someone else in thebuilding in accordance with practice protocols.
To take messages from telephonecallers, and if a matter cannot be resolved immediately and to ensure that themessage reaches the person it is intended for or their deputy within anappropriate length of time.
To liaise with GPs, patients,hospital personnel, PCT staff, Social Services, Mental Health team, and otheragencies in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
To send and receive documents byemail and other systems as appropriate.
To file all clinical letters andreports in accordance with practice protocols both electronically and in paperform
To deal with other miscellaneoussecretarial duties as agreed.
Minute taking when required.
To maintain appropriateconsideration, dignity and respect when dealing with patients or other callersto the surgery
Ability to plan and organise ownworkload
Extensive demonstrable knowledgeof Microsoft Word & Outlook
Ability to understand and makeuse of computerised information systems
Ability to produce a variety ofbusiness documents using different methods of transcript
Ability to work in a teamenvironment
