Overview

Who We Are

At Methods Analytics, our mission is to improve society by helping organisations make better decisions through data; “To Solve for Good”. We combine sector expertise with technical excellence to deliver transformative, ethical, and impactful solutions.

We’re excited by the limitless potential of data - a sector where new innovations are always on the horizon. Our culture thrives on collaboration, creativity, and curiosity, and we invest in building a strong Business Analysis Community of Practice with a defined career pathway that empowers our people to grow, lead, and shape the future of the profession.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Business Analyst to join our Business Analysis Practice delivering data-focused projects in the defence sector.

This role is about more than gathering requirements – you’ll work closely with stakeholders, contribute to shaping delivery, and help guide clients on how to harness data to achieve mission-critical outcomes.

You’ll bring proven experience in management information (MI), discovery work, and data analytics projects, using insight to enable better decision-making at all levels.

We value people who are self-motivated, proactive, collaborative, and curious - someone who can adapt to ambiguity, develop their skills through experience, and grow their confidence in tackling complex problems.

This is a primarily remote role with occasional travel to client sites and our offices in London, Sheffield, or Bristol. Security Clearance will be required (details provided during interview).

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaboration – Act as the bridge between stakeholders and delivery teams, co-creating clear requirements and supporting issue resolution.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Build trusted relationships with defence stakeholders, ensuring business needs are understood and aligned with outcomes.
  • Discovery & Problem Analysis – Contribute to discovery activities, scoping opportunities, clarifying problem spaces, and supporting solution design.
  • Process & Service Improvement – Map and analyse as-is processes, support design of to-be processes, and apply service thinking to create user-centred improvements.
  • Data Source Analysis & Insight – Analyse data sources to define metrics, contribute to design of meaningful MI, and create visualisations that support decision-making.
  • Data-Driven Recommendations – Contribute to MI and analytics projects, helping to assess risks, opportunities, benefits, and costs.
  • Clear Communication – Produce visual models, user stories, acceptance criteria, and concise documentation that bring clarity to complexity.
  • Enable Delivery – Support implementation, troubleshoot issues, and ensure adoption of change.
  • Community & Development – Support colleagues, share best practices, and actively contribute to shaping our BA Community of Practice and career pathway.
  • Ethics & Governance – Promote responsible use of data, ensuring compliance with governance and ethical principles within sensitive defence environments.

Expectations & Behaviours

As a Business Analyst, you are expected to consistently demonstrate the following across multiple projects and situations:

Entrepreneurial

  • Contribute to bids, proposals, and identification of new opportunities.
  • Represent the BA community at least one Business Unit event.

Dedicated

  • Manage client stakeholders professionally and ensure deliverables meet agreed quality standards.

Communicative

  • Engage confidently with stakeholders, including presenting solo to clients.

Innovative

  • Contribute insights and flexibility in shaping best practice in Business Analysis.

Organised

  • Manage your deliverables effectively, ensuring scope, time, and quality are met.

Assertive

  • Provide support and potentially line manage 1–2 junior analysts, coaching where appropriate.

Inquisitive

  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Why Join Us?

  • Professional Growth – Develop technical expertise in data modelling, BI visualisation (Power BI, Tableau), data platforms (Azure, AWS, MS Fabric), and AI. Our defined Business Analysis career pathway provides clarity and progression, with opportunities to step into leadership.
  • Impactful Work – Deliver projects that directly support national defence and security, where the insights you help create enable critical decision-making.
  • Supportive Environment – Join a collaborative, inclusive team where diverse perspectives are valued and innovation is encouraged.
  • Flexibility – Work hybrid with flexibility built around your lifestyle, balanced with in-person connection at client sites and offices.
  • Recognition – Have a voice in shaping our ways of working and representing our BA practice in industry forums.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience contributing to MI, data analytics, and discovery projects.
  • Ability to analyse data sources, define business questions and metrics, and support dashboard/visualisation design (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Proactive and self-motivated, able to drive outcomes while developing confidence and independence.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to adapt when challenges are unclear or complex.
  • Confident engaging with stakeholders across different levels.
  • Skilled in eliciting and refining business requirements (workshops, interviews, workflow mapping).
  • Familiar with Agile ways of working and tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello).
  • Proficient in developing Epics, Use Cases, and User Stories with scenario-based acceptance criteria.
  • Awareness of relational data modelling, ETL, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Awareness of Data Science, AI, and big data principles.

Desirable Skills and experience

  • IIBA or BCS professional certification.
  • Awareness of data governance (DAMA) and/or data architecture principles
