Overview

Join us as an Acquiring Credit Risk Strategy Analyst, where you will play a critical role in shaping and executing data-driven strategies to optimise credit risk management in the acquiring business. Focusing on assessing merchant risk, developing analytical frameworks, and supporting portfolio strategies to minimise losses while enabling growth. You will combine your financial knowledge, data analysis expertise, and strategic insight to inform decision-making across underwriting and portfolio monitoring.

Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, SAS, AWS Redshift, Python, Enterprise miner, MS Excel for data analysis and statistical modelling.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Business Objects).
  • Knowledge of risk modelling techniques (PD/LGD/EAD, machine learning).
  • Understanding of financial acquiring dynamics (merchant onboarding, settlement, chargebacks, reserves, collateral).
  • Familiarity with credit bureau data, alternative data sources, and risk scoring methodologies.
Professional Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance risk management with business growth objectives.
  • Clear communicator, able to translate data insights into business strategy.
  • Stakeholder management experience across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in presenting to an audience of senior leaders/stakeholders.
Desirable skills
  • Proven experience in credit risk, portfolio analytics, or strategy, preferably in financial services or payments acquiring.
  • Qualification in finance, risk management, data analytics, statistics or related discipline.
  • Experience with merchant acquiring or commercial credit risk
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards (e.g., ERMF, Basel frameworks, local credit risk regulations).

This role is located in Northampton.

Purpose of the role

To safeguard the financial health of the bank by identifying, analysing, and mitigating potential credit risks associated with lending activities.

Accountabilities
  • Analysis of financial data, including income, assets, liabilities, credit history, and economic trends, to determine the risk of default.
  • Monitoring of existing loan portfolios to identify potential credit deterioration or early warning signs of default.
  • Recommendation of loan approvals, rejections, or adjustments based on risk evaluation and bank lending policies.
  • Development and implementation of credit risk mitigation strategies, including collateral management, loan restructuring, and workout plans.

  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
