TEACHING ASSISTANT
Job Context:
Enthusiastic Teaching Assistant (TA)needed for our infant school. The Headteacher is seeking to appoint an innovative and inspirational TA to build on the established successes of our school. St Nicolas C of E Infant School is situated on the edge of Guildford town and is a thriving and happy school. We have 3 classes and a total of 90 children, reception to year 2. An understanding of the nature of small schools and a passion for infant learning are essential, as well as the ability to find joy in the role.
Line Manager: SENDCO / Class Teacher
Purpose of Job: To assist and support identified pupil(s) while contributing to the support of the wider class.
Liaison with: Head Teacher, Class teacher, SENDCO and other support staff, outside agencies e.g. Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists etc.
Accountable to: the Headteacher and Governing Body
Salary: Pay scale Grade 3
3 full days (which can go down to 2 depending on the child’s need) per week (including 3 INSET days)
Range from £7,481 to £11,222 per annum (2 or 3 full days, with 3 INSET days)
Start date: 3rd September 2025

Responsibilities of the post:
The TA’s main role is to provide support for identified pupil with EHCP need. The TA will ensure the pupil can integrate as fully as possible in the activities generally undertaken by the other children in the class in order to make progress with his learning and personal development.
Duties will include running specific programmes and activities to assist the pupil’s individual learning and social needs. The TA will be responsible for implementing strategies to raise pupil attainment of and in partnership with the class teacher and SENDCO.
Key Accountabilities
Supporting the pupil:-
• To provide learning support for the pupil in class or in withdrawal situations, either 1:1 or small groups.
• To develop knowledge of the particular needs of the child and seek advice from SENCo, class teacher and outside agencies as required.
• To aid access to the full range of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom and provide modified materials as required e.g. worksheets, games, visual prompt cards, etc.
• To make or modify resources as suggested and advised by SENCo, CT or outside agencies
• To be involved in the planning and preparation of the day to day class activities.
• To support the organisation and maintenance of an inclusive learning environment both in the classroom and outside.
• To support the pupil in the playground, being mindful of his health and safety in relation to his SEND and encouraging safe interactive play.
• Motivate and encourage the pupil to have a go at activities he may be unsure of.
• Provide positive reinforcements, praise and rewards.
• Facilitate inclusion in small group activities with peers and support interaction between them.
• To attend INSET training and meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments in working with children with special educational needs.
• Provide support and facilitate interaction with peers in the classroom and around school.
Supporting the class teacher:
• To work as part of the class team including supporting health & safety and safeguarding provision for all children in the school.
• To attend planning meetings with the SENCO and class teacher to support the development and delivery of learning programmes
• To provide regular feedback to the class teacher, SENCO and relevant outside agencies about the pupil’s difficulties and progress.
• To contribute to the pupil’s reviews by attending any meeting.
Supporting the school:-
• To foster positive links between home and school, liaising daily in a professional manner with the parents of the child, and reporting to the CT any pertinent information from parents.
• To participate in relevant professional development as deemed appropriate for the needs of the child.
• To understand and apply the school policies on learning and behaviour, and the statutory guidelines relating to disability discrimination and special educational needs.
• To maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the pupil’s needs but have regard to the safeguarding procedures of the school and Surrey County Council.
• To carry out other duties across the school as directed and deemed reasonable by the SENCO or Head Teacher
