Overview
The Electronic Systems (ES) sector spans the commercial and defence electronics markets with a broad portfolio of mission‑critical electronic systems, including flight and engine controls.
Training & Career Path
- You will spend the first 10 months at IPS International learning Electronics, Bench fitting, CAD, Soldering, Inspection and project‑related tasks to give you the necessary skills for site work.
- In year 2 you will rotate through several departments, including engineering and operations, to find work that suits you.
- In year 3 we arrange interviews to place you in a role to specialise and build your career.
- Our Ofsted (Outstanding Grade 1) Advanced Engineering Technician Apprenticeship scheme aims to develop candidates into technicians to be part of a dynamic operations and engineering workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow health and safety, environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance.
- Comply with engineering standards and regulations (BS, ISO, EN).
- Analyse engineering and manufacturing data to support technical outputs.
- Apply scientific, technical or engineering principles.
- Use problem‑solving techniques to investigate technical problems.
- Organise, plan and prioritise workflow and scheduling of work with stakeholders.
- Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, considering cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact.
- Produce job‑specific technical outputs such as engineering drawings, quality control documentation, computer control programming, business improvement, adverse incident reports, technical investigations, equipment appraisals and specifications.
- Provide support and guidance for handover of work to stakeholders via checklists, status updates and documentation.
- Record information (paper or electronic) such as energy usage, equipment service records, test results, handover documents and checklists.
- Follow standard operating procedures and manufacturer's instructions.
- Apply quality assurance and control principles through physical checks, sampling, inspections or tests.
- Apply continuous improvement techniques.
- Apply team‑working principles.
- Communicate in writing and verbally with stakeholders, colleagues and managers.
- Use information and digital technology; comply with GDPR and cybersecurity regulations.
- Carry out and record learning and development activities.
- Apply equity, diversity and inclusion procedures.
Qualifications
- GCSE in Maths, English & Science or Technical (grade A‑C or 9‑4).
