Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Consett
Working hours: 39 hours, Monday to Thursday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
Salary: £45,000 to £52,000 (depending on experience)

Main duties / Key tasks
You will deliver excellent asset optimisation for manufacturing processes within your area, ensuring the combined integration of manufacturing engineering, Health, Safety and Quality standards.
- Develop and support best practices including FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis) studies, value stream mapping, SPC (Statistical Process Control) and SOP (Standard Operating Procedure).
- Improve processes to reduce non‑value added activity while ensuring safety and product quality.
- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, cost and quality.
- Streamline workflows to minimise waste and enhance process efficiency.
- Production Analysis: Assess machining, workbench and paint processes to drive improvements.
- Data‑Driven Decision Making: Utilise metrics and data analysis to identify inefficiencies and propose effective solutions.
- Present opportunities for improvement backed with data and industry research to management.
- Support the development of the lean culture.
- Work on multiple Manufacturing Engineering Projects to improve Quality, Cost and Delivery.
- Work with new and existing vendors to reduce cost on tooling.
- Effectively work with suppliers of engineering services at site.
- In conjunction with the Section Leaders ensure engineering standards are maintained and that all activities are conducted in a safe, cost‑effective and timely manner.
- Liaise with other departments requiring advice and guidance on engineering subjects.
- Apply a pragmatic, hands‑on approach to problem solving.
- Support other members of the Engineering Team in their development as required.
- Attend meetings with the cross‑functional team to represent the Engineering Team.
Skills & Experiences
- Experience of working in a lean operating environment and as part of a high‑performance team.
- Lean Six Sigma (LSS) certification to Green Belt standard would be advantageous.
- Capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Competence in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other business management systems.
- Highly developed analytical skills.
- Effective project planning skills.
- Root cause problem solving and practical knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering.
Credentials
- Minimum 5 years Manufacturing / Process Engineering Experience.
- Bachelor's degree or HNC and equivalent experience in a similar role for a minimum of 5 years.
- Experience in the Aerospace industry and understanding of AS 9100 standards would be advantageous.
- NEBOSH certification preferred.
