We’re looking for a passionate and proactive practitioner to join our School‑Aged Health Improvement and Prevention Service, delivering targeted health promotion in schools and community settings across Cambridgeshire/Peterborough
As part of our team, you’ll lead initiatives such as:
- Catch Your Breath vaping prevention workshops
- Sexual health education and C‑Card scheme delivery
- STI awareness and testing
You may also deliver sessions on tobacco, physical activity, healthy eating, and wellbeing. Working closely with students, school staff, and community stakeholders, you’ll help reduce health inequalities and empower young people to make positive choices.
What we’re looking for:
- A relevant qualification in public health, education, youth work, or related area
- Experience working with young people in schools or community settings
- Excellent communication skills and confidence in delivering sessions
- Knowledge of safeguarding, PSHE/RSE curriculum, and health inequalities
- Ability to manage a varied caseload and travel across the region

Role: Youth Health Improvement Practitioner
Purpose of the Role
Join us in shaping a healthier future for young people. Our service creates supportive environments that empower children and adolescents to make positive choices about their health and wellbeing. Through education, prevention, and targeted interventions, we aim to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver interactive, age‑appropriate health sessions aligned with service plans and KPIs
- Champion public health initiatives, including Catch Your Breath and C‑Card distribution
- Support schools in achieving Healthy Schools Accreditation and embedding whole‑school health approaches
- Build strong relationships with students, school staff, and community networks
- Apply MECC (Making Every Contact Count) principles to promote lasting health improvements
- Collect and manage data accurately in line with GDPR standards
- Stay informed on emerging health topics and contribute to resource development
- Collaborate with partners to strengthen multi‑agency working
- Provide impact examples and case studies for service reports
- Attend training, CPD, and community events to maintain best practice
- Uphold safeguarding and professional standards at all times
Person Specification
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging health sessions for young people
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence in motivating schools to engage with health initiatives
- Competence in managing a varied workload independently
- Skilled in data entry and outcome monitoring
- Collaborative team player with a solution‑focused approach
- Respectful and empathetic toward diverse backgrounds
Knowledge & Experience
- Understanding of health challenges faced by school‑aged children
- Awareness of health inequalities and barriers for young people
- Familiarity with PSHE/RSE curriculum and Healthy Schools framework
- Knowledge of safeguarding and GDPR compliance
- Experience working with young people in educational or community settings (essential)
- Previous delivery of group‑based health promotion interventions
- Competence in Microsoft 365 (Teams, Forms, Excel, PowerPoint)
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in health, education, youth work, or related field (essential)
- Recognised training qualification (desirable)
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
Special Conditions
- Willingness to work evenings or weekends as required
- Ability to travel across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough (full UK driving licence and business‑use insurance required)
