A regional healthcare provider is seeking a part-time Women's Health Physiotherapist for 15 hours per week. The role involves evaluating complex patients and promoting women's health physiotherapy. This role is offered on a part time basis of 15 hours per week only, this means that candidates interested in working part time are encouraged to apply and will receive a salary on a pro rata basis.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the provision and evaluation of the Women’s Health and Continence Physiotherapy Service provided to outpatients at the Great Western Hospital.

The caseload will involve advanced assessment of patients within the specialty who may have highly complex and/or chronic presentation and to determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment.

To promote Women’s Health physiotherapy and provide specialist advice and teaching within GWH and the South West region

Job responsibilities
  • To undertake specialised assessment of patients with urogynaecological and continence problems, musculo‑skeletal problems in pregnancy and up to six weeks post‑partum. Conditions include urinary and faecal incontinence, vaginal prolapse, dyspareunia and pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain.
  • To undertake assessments of patients using advanced investigative and analytical skills to formulate individualised management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and a range of treatment and teaching skills.
  • To communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and carers on very sensitive issues to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of the condition/problems. Communication skills of persuasion, motivation clarification and gaining informed consent will be used with a wide variety of patients. Barriers to effective communication will regularly be evident, e.g. embarrassment, anxiety, pain, fear, cultural differences, visual/hearing impairment.
  • To maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of new trends and developments, to reflect on these and incorporate them as necessary into your own work to ensure and maintain expertise.
  • To keep up to date with changes in your field, disseminate information and ensure that practice is based on best available evidence.
  • To be an active participant in the in‑service training program. To provide teaching to other physiotherapy staff with regard to women’s health and continence issues.

Qualifications
  • HCPC Registration
  • Physiotherapy Professional knowledge acquired through degree and state registration supplemented by specialist courses, CPD and experience across specialties gained from post‑registration short rotations or equivalent
  • Completion of post graduate women’s health ACPWH accredited training
  • Membership of ACPWH
Experience
  • Completion of band 5 rotational posts
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of a range of continence strategies
  • Experience of supervising and training others
  • Use of outcome measures
  • Experience of psychosexual dysfunction and treatment
  • Experience of working as a band 6 in Outpatients or Women’s Health
  • Experience of service development and/or evaluative work
  • Group work with patients
