Job Title: Welding Engineering Technician

The Role

As a Welding Engineering Technician, you’ll be at the heart of delivering precision engineering for mission‑critical defence projects. Your work will help ensure large‑scale fabrications for weapons, submarines, and launch systems meet the highest standards, making a real difference to national security and global safety.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Support tender reviews, procedure qualification and welder qualification, and help implement test programmes.
  • Coordinate non‑destructive testing (NDT) and mechanical testing for procedure qualification.
  • Conduct planned welding surveillance before, during and after welding to assure quality.
  • Maintain welder qualifications, and train/qualify subcontract welders.
  • Review and authorise welding consumable certification; monitor compliance to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and run production‑improvement trials for structural and pipe joints.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Ashton House, Bristol. (Set working times are Monday–Thursday 07:00–16:00 and Friday 07:00–12:30.

Essential experience of the Welding Engineering Technician
  • Apprenticeship or proven experience in fabrication and welding.
  • Structural welding experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Qualifications for the Welding Engineering Technician
  • Preferred: HNC (or equivalent) in welding/fabrication; CSWIP 3.1; TWI Diploma — with funding available to support training.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
