About The Role
  • Role: Waste Operative
  • Location: Moss Side Depot, Leyland
  • Contract: Full time (36.25 hours per week) / Fixed Term (12 months)
  • Salary: £25,992 - £26,409

As a Waste Operative, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of our community. You will be responsible for the collection of various types of waste managed by the council, ensuring that waste is collected efficiently and disposed of properly. Your role is vital in helping us deliver high‑quality services to our residents.

What you’ll be getting up to
  • You will collect and load a variety of waste, including household, recycling, and garden waste, using both manual handling aids and automated systems.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Engage with residents in a professional and courteous manner, addressing any queries or concerns they may have about waste collection services.
  • Work closely with your supervisors, drivers, and fellow operatives to ensure efficient and effective waste collection operations.

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects frequently and walk considerable distances throughout the day.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others, ensuring a smooth and efficient service.
  • Punctual and dependable, with a strong work ethic and commitment to the role.
  • Experience of working in waste & recycling collection services is desirable.
  • Experience of working in a team, in a service delivery environment.
