Job description

As a Waste Collection Operative you will play a vital role in keeping Tameside clean and safe by collecting and removing waste and recyclable material from residential, industrial, commercial and educational properties.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and sort waste from a variety of containers, accurately load it into the collection vehicle.
  • Use basic tools such as brushes and shovels to assist with collection and maintain the vehicle and equipment.
  • Observe all health, safety and environmental regulations, alert to hazards and report incidents.
  • Work in all weather conditions, undertake written and verbal instructions and demonstrate courteous, respectful behaviour to customers and colleagues.
  • Maintain high productivity levels, undertake significant amounts of walking, lifting and manoeuvring full and empty waste collection receptacles.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and handle basic tools such as brushes and shovels.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and work safely in a physically demanding environment.
  • Alertness to hazards, high productivity and a strong work ethic.
  • Good physical fitness, capable of significant walking, lifting and manoeuvring full and empty containers.
  • Excellent communication skills, courteous and respectful to customers and colleagues.
Working Hours

The role requires a 36 hour working week, normally Monday to Friday, including Bank Holidays but excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
