We’re seeking a driven and forward-thinking Warehouse Operations Manager to found our UK team and help us take off running. The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable and confident working in an unestablished and changing environment as we grow, who will bring the operational experience needed to efficiently set up an effective warehouse and logistics operation, and who can offer guidance on the local workforce and administration. This role will evolve as the new facility is established and grows, with opportunity for career development.

Critical factors for success:

  • Experience & open-mindedness: You’ll bring warehouse/fulfillment experience to the table, but we’re also looking for someone who is open to new and innovative ways of doing things, who can evolve to meet the specific needs of our business, and who has a continuous drive to learn and improve.
  • Self direction & drive: You’ll be the first hire and working with business partners across timezones in the US, HK and UK, so you must be comfortable working independently and managing your projects efficiently to hit key milestones.
  • Problem-solving: Opening a new operation is full of unknowns and obstacles that you will have to navigate. You should be able to research, try different solutions, and figure things out as we go without getting derailed by challenges or surprises.
  • Prioritization: You will have competing priorities and deadlines at times and must be able to see the big picture to prioritize and understand when to pursue building structure versus staying flexible.
  • Exceptional communication: Working remotely from your colleagues means we will rely on you to be our eyes and ears on-site and we’ll expect you to be proactive with updates, open about challenges, and receptive to feedback. We use a lot of asynchronous communication (email, Slack) in addition to phone/video interactions.
  • Positive attitude: You should be able to build camaraderie with your team and maintain optimism and perseverance in the face of challenges.
  • Leadership capabilities: Our team will start off small, but you will be responsible for training our first few hires, setting the tone for company culture, and leading by example to create a strong foundation for future growth.

In the first 3-6 months you will:

  • Set up the facility for operation: Determine warehouse layout, set up pallet racking, obtain equipment, source vendors/suppliers, coordinate with local agencies for permits, etc. to create a fully functioning fulfillment center.
  • Receive initial inventory: You will receive and organize initial inventory shipments and work with internal business partners to establish communication and replenishment processes.
  • Establish SOPs and 5S operation: You will determine and document best practices for your facility to standardize processes and help train future hires, as well as maintain an organized and efficient facility.
  • Start shipping: You will work with internal partners and shipping carriers to kick off outbound shipments to customers, ensuring high standards in turnaround, packaging, and accuracy.
  • Hire first team members: you will work with People Ops to source and interview candidates to hire our first critical roles, create a replicable training plan, and ensure our team can grow to meet business needs. You will remain hands-on in the daily operations even after growing the team.

Long-term you will:

  • Be the primary point of contact and decision maker for shipping logistics for your location.
  • Manage daily execution of order fulfillment process, including setting goals and monitoring KPI’s, using shipping software to manage orders, and delegating tasks to team members.
  • Supervise inventory organization, including coordinating inbound shipments, mapping backstock, assigning cycle counts, FIFO, etc.
  • Ensure your team is productive by conducting daily stand-up meetings to set goals and create motivation, providing ongoing feedback, and effectively resolving performance or conduct issues.
  • Maintain operational budget: including supplies, labor, equipment and provide regular reporting.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and secure facility and create a positive, productive work environment.
  • Meet regularly with Global Operations Manager and COO to provide data/reporting and to discuss long-term strategy and operations.
