Job description

One of the largest care providers of neurological and palliative care is looking for a Ward Manager for its hospice in Leeds, West Yorkshire. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience or interest in palliative care, and someone who is looking to progress with a fantastic organisation.

The role is to manage a team of registered nurses and healthcare assistants within a specialist care environment ensuring the effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of high standards of holistic care for an identified group of service users.

This group provides high quality care to adults across the country with specialist mental health issues, neurological and cognitive conditions within hospices and neurological centres. The service is located in Leeds, providing incredible palliative care and complementary therapy services to support people with life-limiting conditions which can involve complex physical or psychological problems. Their care focuses on helping resolve these problems whilst supporting family, carers and close friends.

Key Responsibilities of a Support Team Leader :
  • Provide clinical leadership and guidance to a team of registered nurses and healthcare assistants
  • Deputising in the absence of the Head of Clinical Services, including at internal and external meetings
  • Contribute to the continuing development of nursing care and services offered to the service users
  • Ensure effective performance management of all clinical staff in line organisational policies and procedures for recruitment, induction, development, supervision, appraisal and discipline
  • Contributing but not responsible for management of costs where appropriate
  • Monitoring the control and ordering of supplies within available resources
  • Promote, demonstrate, and maintain high standards of care delivery according to NICE guidelines and the Quality Governance Policy

Ward Manager Requirements :
  • A Registered Nurse with post‑registration experience in the clinical field
  • Proven clinical team manager and leader
  • Knowledge of best clinical practice in specialist palliative care
  • Up to date with current legislation in Healthcare relevant to the field
  • High written and verbal communication skills liaising with professionals, colleagues, and families
  • Competent IT skills
  • Ability to teach and mentor in a clinical setting
