Job Summary

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced senior Mental Health Nurses to lead the team on their 17‑bed Acute Inpatient Unit within the major health facility on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands.

The Unit is the only Acute Inpatient facility on the island offering admission to individuals aged 18 and up who are experiencing a functional mental disorder whose clinical presentation warrants a period of inpatient care. The Unit aims to provide care in the least restrictive environment, reduce patients’ vulnerability to crisis, maximise their resilience, and minimise the length of hospital admission by facilitating early discharge with active involvement in discharge planning.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the team on the 17‑bed Acute Inpatient Unit, ensuring high‑quality care and positive outcomes for patients. Direct the delivery of care, manage staffing, and oversee discharge planning and early discharge strategies.

Required Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with valid NMC Registration.
  • Minimum of five years UK post‑graduate UK‑based Acute Inpatient Mental Health experience, with at least two years at Band 6/Deputy Ward Manager level or higher.
  • Completion of a mentorship qualification.
  • In possession of, or working towards, a recognised post‑graduate Management qualification.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Guernsey Band 7 salary up to £73,085 plus an annual bonus of £1,605 and £3,000 on completion of two and four years of service.
  • Higher penalty rates: 36% evening/Saturday and 72% Sunday/BH.
