Job description

Being a Volunteering and Community Officer is all about connecting with people. It’s about helping everyone to get involved and feel welcome at National Trust places. Working with volunteers and local communities, you’ll be making a vital contribution to the Trust’s cause of protecting and caring for places so that people and nature can thrive – now and into the future.

This role may involve managing volunteers. You should be willing and able to work some weekends and evenings.

You’ll be reporting to the Volunteering and Community Manager, working with the Visitor Experience and Volunteering and Community team of seven staff, and supervising house volunteers at Lacock Abbey, North Wiltshire.

As our Volunteering and Community Officer, you'll support the wider team by exploring and building links with the local community. You’ll help to make this a flexible, positive, and inclusive place for partners, community groups, and current and future volunteers to get involved.

You’ll work with several Trust teams at different sites on various projects, so your days will be full of variety. This may include helping to run established community-led events and developing new ideas for activities.

You’ll develop new ways of working together and deepen relationships with existing and new audiences. You’ll also help to hone the skills our teams need to welcome and work with all kinds of people.

We'd Love To Hear From You If You’re:

  • Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the benefits of volunteering
  • Someone who loves working with volunteers and understands the legal differences between staff and volunteers
  • Good at communicating with and getting on with people from all backgrounds, understanding why great customer service matters
  • Flexible, collaborative, a team player, and willing to lead or support others' agendas towards shared goals
  • Well-organized with good attention to detail
  • Experienced in volunteering principles and practice
  • Comfortable with IT skills (Microsoft Office) and managing budgets
