Job description

We're looking for someone to join our welcoming Country Parks team, part of Staffordshire County Council's Environment & Countryside Service. The team look after Staffordshire County Councils country parks, green spaces, and manage the county's public rights of way, and we're passionate about helping people enjoy and understand Staffordshire's natural and historic environment.

As the Visitor Engagement Officer, you'll help us deliver a great visitor experience at the Chasewater Innovation Centre and other countryside sites. You'll run the day-to-day operations of the Innovation centre, support volunteers, visitor activities and events, and help make sure our facilities are safe, engaging and well-managed.

You'll also play a key role in raising awareness of the special features of our sites and encouraging responsible use. Whether you're managing bookings, training volunteers, or working with partners, you'll make a real difference to how people experience Staffordshire's Country Parks.

Main Responsibilities

In this role you'll:

  • Oversee daily operations of the Chasewater Innovation Centre and support other visitor facilities.
  • Organise and manage events, activities and bookings.
  • Lead and develop staff and volunteers.
  • Work with partners, tenants and stakeholders to support activity on site.
  • Carry out checks and inspections to keep our premises safe and compliant.
  • Support the development of new facilities and commercial opportunities.
  • Handle financial processes including cash handling, recording, and monitoring.
  • Produce engaging visitor information and ensure it's shared effectively with the public.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience
  • Experience working in visitor engagement, customer-facing environments, or managing visitor/education/conference facilities.
  • Experience organising and running public events.
  • Experience producing visitor information or interpretation for the public.
  • Experience managing or supporting staff and/or volunteers.
  • Experience of health and safety procedures, including basic risk assessment and safe premises management.
  • Experience of basic financial tasks, such as cash handling, sales, or financial recording.
Skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage confidently with visitors of all ages.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work well in a team and motivate others, including volunteers.
Other Requirements
  • A valid driving licence (the post is designated casual car user).
  • Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and occasional evenings as part of a 7-day rota.
  • This role is subject to a DBS check.
