Job description
Overview

Champion the education of children in care, helping them build brighter futures. As a Virtual School Advisory Teacher, you'll be using your teaching experience to make a lasting difference. You'll work directly with children in care, alongside schools, carers and social workers, to make sure each young person gets the support they need to thrive in education - wherever they're placed.

What you'll be doing
  • You will take responsibility for a group of children in care, acting as their advocate in all things education. Your role is to ensure they have every chance to succeed, including reviewing Personal Education Plans (PEPs), monitoring progress, and ensuring pupil premium funding is used effectively.
  • You will travel to meet young people wherever they are placed, providing direct support through mentoring, tuition and observation. You will build close working relationships with Designated Teachers and school leaders, offering guidance, challenging practice when needed, and keeping the child\'s needs at the centre.
  • You will track data carefully to spot where extra support is needed, and help design interventions that work. You will also play a role in training school staff, foster carers and social workers—helping everyone involved understand what young people in care need to feel safe, supported and able to learn.
What you'll bring
  • You will be a qualified teacher with experience in mainstream education, covering at least two key stages. You will also have a strong understanding of the legislation around children in care and how it impacts their education.
  • You will be confident working with a wide range of people—from young people and carers to school staff and social workers—and able to build trust quickly. You will be organised, responsive, and able to manage your time well, even with a busy and varied caseload.
  • Above all, you will care deeply about helping children in care succeed—not just academically, but in finding stability, confidence and a belief in their own potential.
