Job description
Job Overview

Veterinarian. Live and work on the Yorkshire Coast in Whitby, Salary £40k - £65k DOE.

We’re working with a long-established, family‑owned independent practice in the iconic seaside town of Whitby. This 5‑vet practice has been trusted by the local community for over 70 years, since opening its doors in 1946.

They are now looking to recruit an additional vet to join their team. The caseload is predominantly small animal 85% with 15% equine work, so you will need to have experience in both. They also work closely with the British Divers Marine Life Rescue and a local wildlife sanctuary, giving you the chance to be part of some truly meaningful and memorable cases.

Working Week
  • 4‑day week with a fixed day off.
  • Early finish every Friday.
  • 1:5 weekend rota.
  • 1 night per week on call (always with a nurse).
  • Dedicated daily admin time and a scheduled lunch break.
  • A diary structure praised by the Practice Standards Inspector for supporting wellbeing, breaks, and catch‑up time.

The culture here is warm, close‑knit, and genuinely welcoming. The team enjoys spending time together, whether that’s over a shared meal, relaxing at their beach hut in summer, or trying out local activities.

If you want to try paddleboarding, kayaking, wild swimming, seaside saunas, or simply watching a spectacular Whitby sunset with your favourite drink in hand, you’ll fit right in.

Laurentiu, one of their regular locums, sums it up perfectly:

“I absolutely love working at The Beck Veterinary Practice. The friendly, family‑owned atmosphere makes it a joy to come to work. The team is incredibly supportive, and we all share a genuine passion for providing the best care possible for our patients. It's such a positive, welcoming environment, and I'm proud to be part of a practice that treats animals and staff as family.”

Whitby itself is a gem, historic, charming, full of character, and surrounded by some of the best scenery in the UK. With the North York Moors National Park on your doorstep, miles of coastal walks, and famous landmarks like Whitby Abbey and the 199 steps (which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”), life outside work can be as adventurous or as peaceful as you want it to be.
