Automotive Mechanic / Technician – Hitchin

Hours : Monday-Friday | 8am-5pm | Salary : £35,000 – £42,000

We're recruiting an experienced Vehicle Technician / MOT Tester to join a professional, busy automotive workshop that combines routine maintenance with advanced diagnostic and specialist services. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives on varied work, quality standards, and ongoing development.

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll work across all aspects of mechanical vehicle repair and maintenance, including:

  • General servicing & repairs on cars and light commercials
  • MOT testing to DVSA standards
  • Advanced vehicle diagnostics using modern systems
  • Engine and gearbox fault‑finding and component work
  • Assisting with specialised retrofit tasks when required
  • Communicating with customers to explain faults and solutions
  • Occasional off‑site work where required
Workshop Environment & Services

You’ll be part of a workshop that provides a broad range of vehicle services, including:

  • Main dealer‑level diagnostics and fault finding
  • Servicing and maintenance to manufacturer standards
  • Engine & gearbox rebuild work
  • MOT testing with dedicated customer waiting areas
  • Retrofit installations for optional vehicle upgrades
  • Tyre fitting & 4‑wheel alignment using digital systems
  • ECU flashing / coding and advanced calibration work
  • Alloy wheel refurbishment

This variety keeps the work interesting and technically challenging.

What You Need
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in vehicle maintenance / repair
  • Strong mechanical ability across all makes and models
