UX Designer - Contract (Public Sector/Regulated Environments)

Contract Type: Inside IR35
Rate: £425-£475/day (all-in)
Location: Remote-first with limited UK onsite (varies by role)
Duration: 3-6 months (extensions likely)

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced UX Designer to support the delivery of user-centred digital services across public sector and regulated industries. You will work within agile, multidisciplinary teams to design intuitive, accessible, and evidence-led user experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead UX design across discovery, Alpha, beta, and live phases
  • Translate user research insights into clear design solutions
  • Produce user journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and service blueprints
  • Collaborate with researchers, product managers, developers, and stakeholders
  • Ensure designs meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1+)
  • Contribute to and work within established design systems
  • Present and defend design decisions to senior stakeholders
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience as a UX Designer in public sector or regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of user-centred design principles
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams
  • Confident using tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar
  • Experience designing complex transactional or data-heavy services
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable
  • GDS or government digital delivery experience
  • Service design or content design exposure
