Job description
Job Purpose
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coordination, and oversight of the Assessment and Support Team
  • Ensure timely, proportionate allocations and statutory assessments aligned to risk
  • Support operational management and implementation of service initiatives
  • Maintain high-quality safeguarding practice and child-centred outcomes
  • Allocate work, set standards, supervise staff, and drive professional development
Key Responsibilities
  • Co‑lead service delivery, providing management oversight and deputising for the Team Leader when required
  • Manage and develop the workforce, including supervision, recruitment, performance, and staff wellbeing
  • Ensure statutory assessment, planning, intervention, and review duties are completed to a high standard
  • Monitor and improve practice quality through audits, supervision, and performance management
  • Authorise and manage financial resources within delegated authority and budget guidelines
  • Build and lead effective multi‑agency partnerships, chair meetings, challenge decision‑making, and represent the service
Person Specification
  • Registered Social Worker (HCPC/Social Work England) with experience operating at Experienced Social Worker level in urban, culturally diverse settings
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory assessments, early help, CIN, LAC, care leavers, and private fostering frameworks
  • Proven experience supervising and managing children’s social care staff, including performance and professional development
  • Ability to make sound professional judgements, assess risk and need with complex or incomplete information, and avoid drift or delay
  • Confident in multi‑agency working, quality assurance and audit processes, electronic case management systems, and producing high‑quality written and verbal reports.
