Job description
Overview

To work as a sonographer within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust, having completed the post graduate certificate in Medical Ultrasound, becoming an autonomous practitioner contributing to the sonographer‑led service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all of the required clinical caseload of the Trust other than the most complex interventions carried out by medical staff members.
  • Manage the patient pathway associated with individual referrals, provide a comprehensive report of findings (seeking appropriate advice if required) and ensure communication to appropriate clinicians.
  • Take responsibility for image archiving and electronic data management generated during the procedure.
  • Effectively communicate distressing and unexpected news to patients using empathy, respect and tact.
  • Develop professional knowledge base for external consultation and work as a team with a multi‑disciplinary approach.
  • Ensure technical equipment QA and safe operation for patient use.
  • Model compassionate and inclusive leadership to foster a collective leadership culture across teams and departments.
Qualifications

Desirable Qualities
  • Independent scanning experience in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, GenMed and Musculoskeletal areas.
Location

Base site vacancies at North Tyneside General Hospital. The Trust covers three major locality hospitals (North Tyneside, Wansbeck, Hexham and The Northumbria) and several community hospitals and clinics, providing a large geographical area of service.
