Job description

The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective modules at International Foundation Year (Pre-Undergraduate or Level 3 Equivalent) level. Teaching sessions will be predominantly face-to-face with some online teaching also required. The Arts, Humanities and Law modules at the centre include: English Legal System, English Literature; Extended Project; Geography; Introduction to Liberal Arts; Introduction to Ancient History; and Introduction to Modern History.

You will join a team of Arts and Humanities tutors to deliver some of the above modules.

ABOUT THE ROLE
  • Delivering modules (face-to-face and occasionally online) to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the continued development of modules.
  • Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
  • Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre’s virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
  • Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance
  • Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students
  • Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
  • Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
  • Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
  • Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to the subject.
ABOUT YOU
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (essential)
  • A recognised teaching qualification (desirable)
  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in a related subject area (desirable)
  • Fluent spoken and written English (essential)
  • Teaching experience delivering Arts, Humanities and Law and other arts and humanities programmes within a Sixth Form, Further Education or Higher Education context
  • Experience of working with international students both online and face-to-face. (Desirable)
  • Confident practitioner online and face-to-face
  • Able to master a wide range of online teaching software
  • A student-centred approach
  • Strong record-keeping skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
