Job summary

A major NHS healthcare provider in East London is seeking an enthusiastic junior doctor for a full-time locum role. The successful candidate will deliver acute inpatient care and work alongside a multidisciplinary team in gastroenterology. This position runs from April 1 to August 4, 2026, and provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to patient care in a supportive environment. Candidates will gain experience in managing complex medical cases while participating in the on-call rota.

Job description
Position Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic junior doctor to join our dynamic team providing acute and inpatient general internal medicine to the residents on Newham, east London. This full‑time locum FY2+ equivalent/SHO post will be available from 1 April 2026 to 4 August 2026.

Role & Responsibilities

The doctor will be based on the wards delivering daily care of medical inpatients under the team, and will also care for patients admitted with specific gastroenterology or liver conditions. Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the hospital on‑call rota, responsible for clerking, assessment and management of patients referred to Acute Medicine.
  • Participating in a ward‑based system as part of the larger Gastroenterology team.
  • Working alongside a multidisciplinary team consisting of 7 Gastroenterology Consultants, 3 Specialist Registrars, 2 Senior House Officers (IMT SHOs), 1 FY2 SHO, and 3 Foundation 1 (FY1) trainees.

They can also see patients in the acute medicine setting.
