Job summary

Qualifications

Treatment Doctor / Surgeon - Alternate Thursdays

BPAS is looking for a surgeon to perform terminations of pregnancy in our Merseyside Clinic. This role works on alternate Thursdays.

About the role

As a treatment doctor/surgeon you will provide safe, effective and comprehensive surgical and medical terminations of pregnancy to BPAS clients. You may also work at other BPAS clinics nationally.

Required qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine or equivalent, with full General Medical Council registration and license to practice.
  • Experience of independent practice for abortion procedures at relevant gestations.
  • Knowledge of termination of pregnancy procedures and management of complications.
  • Experience of IUD/implant insertion and knowledge of sexual health issues.
  • Strong communication skills; willingness to travel within the region and work flexibly.
  • Willingness to train to higher gestations; ability to work 7.5 hours on alternate Thursdays.

Main duties

  • Carry out termination of pregnancy by the appropriate method and ensure complete abortion in accordance with BPAS clinical policies.
  • Complete client consultation and statutory documentation.
  • Assess and advise on management of clients with medical or other conditions that may affect the abortion process.
  • Remain in the operating theatre throughout each procedure and stay on site until clients are fit for discharge or passed to another doctor.
  • Provide support, advice and guidance to nursing staff in management of unexpected outcomes.

Working hours and salary

  • Location: BPAS Merseyside Liverpool Merseyside Clinic & Consultation Centre, 32 Parkfield Road, Aigburth, Liverpool L17 8UJ
  • Hours: 3.75 hours per week (7.5 hours on alternate Thursdays)
  • Salary: £103,020 – £154,020 per annum (pro rata for part‑time hours) depending on gestational skills & experience.
