Description
We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to lead and develop our transport team while overseeing day‑to‑day transport operations. This role is key to ensuring compliance, efficiency, and a positive, high‑performance culture across the transport team.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for daily deliveries through the use of the manifest system and communication with sales across all divisions of TKMUK.
- Ensuring that all vehicles and drivers meet recommended legal requirements and all records are maintained in accordance with VOSA.
- Recruit, supervise, motivate, train and appraise the drivers and transport admin in conjunction with the Divisional Transport Manager.
- Efficiently implement Company Standard Practices and warehouse procedures. Meet all legal and safety requirements applicable to the Company.
- Observe the requirements of the company Quality procedures, Environmental procedures and Health & Safety rules.
- Ensure that all administration functions are carried out efficiently, particularly by the Transport administration assistants.
- Control Route Planning and ensure the effective utilisation of both company and hired vehicles.
- Ensure that all legal requirements with regard to vehicles are met – including maintenance inspections, plating, MOT tests, and the inspection and filing of tachograph sheets and vehicle defect reports.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Hold a valid Transport Manager CPC (National and/or International).
- Proven experience in a Transport Manager or senior transport supervisory role.
- Strong working knowledge of transport legislation, driver hours, tachographs, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrable experience in people management, including managing drivers and transport staff.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams, with experience handling performance management, absence, and disciplinary processes.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage at all levels.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing demands.
- Competent IT skills, including transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Previous responsibility for O‑Licence compliance.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced or regulated environment.
- Knowledge of health & safety and risk management within transport operations.
- Experience driving a positive safety and compliance culture.
