Overview

When you work in Freight Logistics and Operations at Kuehne+Nagel, you play a key role in optimising processes and ensuring that inventory and shipments move efficiently. Your work also helps ensure that vital medicines reach patients on time and supports other essential deliveries, from wind turbines to semiconductors. This role is to join our LHR team as a Transport Controller to coordinate time-sensitive preplanned/same day collections, deliveries, and airport tenders & recoveries. The role works in shifts, 7am to 7pm, 4 days on, 4 days off.

As a Transport Controller, you will manage daily driver schedules, monitor live transport activities, and ensure compliance with operational standards. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver exceptional service for QuickSTAT and Sterling Aviation consignments, many of which are life sciences or AOG time critical.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and allocate drivers for nationwide collections, deliveries, and airport tenders/recoveries
• Monitor live transport activities and liaise with drivers and subcontractors
• Ensure timely milestone updates (e.g., Pick-Up, Out for Delivery, POD)
• Manage shared mailboxes and respond to internal transport queries
• Maintain driver discipline and standards (e.g., appearance, vehicle cleanliness, punctuality)
• Provide clear shift handovers and escalate issues to management as needed
• Support quality control and continuous improvement initiatives

What we would like you to bring

• Experience in courier or freight operations, including import/export and transport
• Strong knowledge of UK road networks and route planning
• Familiarity with temperature-controlled packaging and transit milestones
• Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Good Distribution Practice knowledge
• Experience using a Transport Management system is preferred
