Trainee Teaching Assistant

We are looking for a motivated and caring Trainee Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Westbury. This Trainee Teaching Assistant role is perfect for someone who wants to begin a career in education, enjoys helping children with additional needs, and is eager to learn and grow in a supportive environment.

The Role Trainee Teaching Assistant

As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils aged 4 19 across the school while developing your skills and understanding of SEND practice. Your daily duties will include:

  • Providing 1:1 Trainee Teaching Assistant support and assisting small groups to help pupils take part in learning.

  • Working with children who may have ASD, communication difficulties, sensory needs, SEMH, PMLD or physical challenges.

  • Helping to create a calm, structured and positive classroom atmosphere.

  • Assisting pupils with personal care, feeding and mobility if needed (full guidance and training can be provided).

  • Building supportive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and experienced Teaching Assistants to learn effective strategies.

  • Using visual aids, communication systems and routines to support pupils understanding throughout the day.

Requirements for the Trainee Teaching Assistant Role

To be considered for this Trainee Teaching Assistant position, you should:

  • Be patient, enthusiastic and keen to learn.

  • Be comfortable helping pupils with a range of additional needs, including personal care.

  • Be a good communicator who works well within a team.

  • Ideally have a DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.

  • Be open to training and development as you grow into your Trainee Teaching Assistant role.

Salary

£88.92 £100.00 per day, depending on experience and training.
