Trainee Practice Assistant Apprenticeship

Trainee Practice Assistant (Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship)

As a Trainee Practice Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the efficient functioning of a general practice setting. This apprenticeship opportunity gives you the hands‑on skills and experience of primary care.

Over 18 months you will learn a range of skills and gain lots of experience to support you with starting your career in the NHS. On completion of the training there will be scope for further development in clinical and non‑clinical career pathways.

Main duties of the job
  • excellent communications skills - to liaise with a range of people and partners
  • digital skills: learning a range of IT software and databases
  • organisation and co‑ordination skills: basic project management skills
  • administrative skills: Assist with general administrative tasks
  • collaboration: working closely with the Practice team
  • confidentiality and Data Protection - maintain strict confidentiality of patient information
  • handle Practice correspondence, both paper and electronic, and attach it to the patient record.
  • deal with requests from patients, team members, and external agencies.
  • update data on the electronic patient record system EMIS.
  • provide administrative support to doctors and the practice manager.
  • ensure accurate data entry and learning key Practice procedures.
  • undertake short projects as part of your apprenticeship training program.
  • identify important clinical data from correspondence, such as new diagnoses, peak flow measures, blood pressure readings, height, weight, and smoking status.
  • coordinate test requests (bloods, x‑rays, scans, etc.) through the workflow process, including contacting patients, generating test request forms, and arranging follow‑up coordination as needed.
  • draft responses to consultation letters for GPs.

Location: Pennylets Green, Stoke Poges, Slough, Berkshire, SL24AZ. Conveniently accessible from the M4, M40, M25, and on the train line from London Marylebone & Elizabeth Line

Patient list size of around 6,400 with a medical team which includes two GP partners plus 4 salaried GPs and a prescribing minor illness nurse. Two full time pharmacists working alongside practice nurses and HCAs.

Key responsibilities

Whilst gaining skills within the Practice, you will be following the Business Administration Level 3 Standard with Training Provider Community Matters. This will involve a blend of formal study and self‑directed learning.
