Job description

Balfour Beatty is the UK's largest construction company with involvements in a wide range of projects across the UK including Nuclear, High‑Speed Rail, Highways and Net‑Zero/Carbon reduction projects. As a Trainee Materials Technician, you'll be working as part of a small team to ensure the effective delivery of major construction projects within the United Kingdom, creating better connections for the local community.

Responsibilities
  • Working safely within the laboratory and on construction sites.
  • Working alongside other team members to test the properties of construction materials including concrete, grout and aggregates.
  • Improving the performance of existing products that are already in place.
  • Developing an understanding, knowledge and practical methods used to examine materials, including non‑destructive testing (NDT).
  • Working to established test methods to ensure quality and to support the lab in maintaining its accreditation.
  • Travelling to and from sites, collecting materials for testing.

  • Enthusiasm over school results; drive to learn more about the sector and to be candid about what you know and don’t know.
  • Creative and committed; proactive in identifying problems and defects.
