Basic Purpose / Accountabilities

The Renewables Fuels & Credit Trader will be responsible for developing, managing and trading global renewable fuels & credit market opportunities. This position will focus on integrating our expanding portfolio of renewable fuels into a wider pool of compliance and voluntary demand. The successful candidate will work as part of a trading team covering Feedstocks (Used Cooking Oil, Tallow & Vegetable Oils), Ethanol, Biodiesel, Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO)/Renewable Diesel, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and credits markets. Responsibilities will include physical and financial trading; expanding the scope of our renewable fuels trading; developing new business streams; managing and optimizing storage locations; managing and optimizing compliance obligations; securing term offtake and supply agreements; diversifying our fuels & credit trading pool and internal stakeholder management working closely with Refining, Emerging Energy, Value Chain Optimization and other Commercial groups.

Responsibilities
  • Generate value (net margin) for Phillips 66
  • Build scope of physical renewable fuels business in EMEA and globally
  • Develop portfolio of voluntary and compliance credit markets managed in EMEA
  • Build strong relationships with external trading counterparties
  • Understand counterparty requirements, strategies, drivers, business portfolio and market views
  • Identify, pursue and implement new sourcing and trading opportunities.
  • Work as part of a global trading team to fully manage the company’s renewable fuel & feedstock portfolio
  • Support the European business in meeting their regulatory/compliance obligations
  • Effectively manage price risk exposure from trading activities
  • Build strong internal relationships within the European/Global Commercial organisation and with our key internal stakeholders (Refining, Marketing, Origination & Emerging Energy)
  • Acquire and communicate market intelligence to internal parties up to and including executive management
  • Support Refining, Marketing, Origination and Emerging Energy strategic initiatives that involve Renewables
  • Become a recognised expert on renewable fuels key market and trading components for Phillips 66
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Legally authorised to work in the UK on a regular, full-time basis without restrictions on local terms and conditions
  • Proven ability to make real-time commercial decisions that have a significant financial impact both independently and as part of the trading team
  • Minimum 5 years trading experience in renewable fuels
  • Understanding of risk/hedging tools to manage underlying positions
  • Ability to interface effectively with internal and external customers, counterparties, suppliers and consultants
  • Collaborative team player with ability to work constructively within a very close and often demanding team-working environment, and interact well with other parts of the group
  • Self‑starter with desire to grow a business and develop their own role within it
  • Flexible; able to reassess market conditions and adjust market views accordingly
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred Skills / Competencies
  • Previous experience of Renewable fuels & credit market trading
  • Knowledge of Biofuels and the economic value it creates in the Clean Product supply chain
  • Knowledge of UK/EU Biofuels directives (RTFO/RED)
  • Proven ability to add significant value through trading or marketing expertise in the European markets, preferably with experience of trading physical products, compliance & voluntary credits and financial instruments
  • Previous experience with marketing/trading/refinery/blending/oil movements operations
  • Knowledge/experience of marine issues pertaining to the movement of products
  • Understanding of the characteristics of products and processes in terms of oil refining, including an appreciation of specifications, and global supply/demand economics.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Additional Information

This role will require the wiliness to work various hours to manage communication across the globe and with key customers/suppliers. Some travel is required (10‑20%).
