Job description
Job Summary

Band 7 Theatre Sister / Charge Nurse (Scrub) – General and Vascular Department. 37.5 hours per week, split across early and late shifts and on‑call participation. Permanent full‑time role based at 20 Devonshire Place, West End, W1G 6JA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the daily coordination of theatre activities for general and vascular lists, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
  • Scrub for a range of complex surgical procedures, maintaining high clinical standards.
  • Support consultant surgeons and theatre teams in delivering efficient, evidence‑based practice.
  • Ensure all equipment, consumables and instruments are prepared and used safely.
  • Promote infection prevention, safety compliance and adherence to AFPP and CQC standards.
  • Act as a visible clinical role model, leading by example and fostering a culture of safety, professionalism and continuous improvement.
  • Line‑manage, mentor and appraise staff; support training and professional development.
  • Manage staffing levels and skill mix to ensure effective team performance.
  • Contribute to recruitment, induction and ongoing staff engagement initiatives.
  • Lead audits, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives; support investigations, incident reviews and implementation of action plans.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation and compliance with all clinical policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with significant scrub experience in general and/or vascular surgery.
  • Experienced in leading a theatre team within a complex surgical environment.
  • Strong communicator, able to influence, motivate and support others.
  • Knowledge of governance, risk management and quality improvement processes.
  • Advanced Scrub Practitioner qualification and/or SFA (desirable).
  • Experience in robotic or minimally invasive surgery (desirable).
