Job summary

A local council in the United Kingdom is seeking a dedicated Tenancy Sustainment Officer to provide comprehensive support to tenants. The ideal candidate will work closely with tenants, housing teams, and partner agencies to promote independent living and prevent homelessness. Responsibilities include assessment, support planning, and managing a caseload effectively. Prior experience in social housing and excellent communication skills are essential. This is a full-time role with hours from Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 6.00pm.

Ashfield District Council is committed to supporting tenants and preventing homelessness by delivering high-quality housing services. This role sits within the Place directorate, providing vital tenancy sustainment support to vulnerable tenants who may struggle to maintain their tenancy.

Role: Tenancy Sustainment Officer

We are seeking a dedicated Tenancy Sustainment Officer to deliver a comprehensive support and advice service to tenants. You will work closely with tenants, housing teams, and partner agencies to promote independent living, prevent homelessness, and ensure compliance with tenancy conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support and advice to tenants with difficulties sustaining their tenancy.
  • Carry out initial assessments, identify support needs, and agree person‑centred support plans.
  • Build constructive relationships with tenants, encouraging positive lifestyle changes.
  • Remind tenants of their rights and responsibilities, assisting with repairs and tenancy breaches.
  • Support tenants with forms, grants, and advocacy with statutory, voluntary, and commercial agencies.
  • Provide budgeting advice and refer tenants to Money Management Advisors where necessary.
  • Manage own caseload effectively, meeting performance targets.
  • Undertake reception duties, housing advice, and administrative tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and correspondence.
  • Promote the service within the Council and support colleagues.
  • Develop positive working relationships with partner organisations and attend multi‑agency meetings.
  • Attend tenant and resident meetings as required.
