Job description

Are you looking for a fast-paced, dynamic role that offers an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of air traffic operations? We're hiring an Air Traffic Control Assistant to join our team at Liverpool John Lennon Airport for an 19-month temporary contract. This is your chance to contribute to the UK's fastest, easiest, and friendliest airport and work alongside a dedicated team of professionals.

Temporary Contract from March 2026 - September 2027

What You'll Do:

As an Air Traffic Control Assistant (ATCA), you'll play a key role in ensuring smooth operations for aircraft in the sky and on the ground. Working closely with our Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs), you'll help keep things running efficiently and safely. Key tasks include:

  • Weather Monitoring: Keeping ATCOs and pilots updated with the latest weather reports.
  • Flight Information: Ensuring ATCOs and pilots have accurate, up-to-date flight details.
  • Air Traffic Slot Monitoring: Ensuring flights depart in accordance to slots issued by CFMU.
  • Flight Book-Outs: Liaising with based GA operators booking out local flights and land aways.
  • Crisis Management: Assisting during emergencies, unexpected events, or unscheduled traffic.

You'll often be the first point of contact for air traffic control, so politeness, ability to prioritise and multitask, and staying calm under pressure will be crucial. While you'll be part of a collaborative team, your ability to take ownership and work independently when needed will be key to success.

Who We're Looking For:

We want someone who is enthusiastic about air traffic control, keen to learn, and ready to take on additional responsibilities as the company expands. This role also offers the chance to assist with ATC and Safety Management tasks, helping you grow within the industry.

Shift Work: The role requires shift work across the 24-hour day.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage flight data.
  • Monitor weather.
  • Relay safety messages.
  • Liaise with other airport departments.
Essential Skills:
  • A strong command of Microsoft Office.
  • A professional phone manner.
  • The ability to thrive in a busy environment.
What You Need:
  • Educational Requirements: GCSE (or equivalent) with at least Grade C in Maths and English.
  • Experience: Experience in an airport or similar environment is a plus, but not essential.
