Overview

Nelson Permanent Placements are hiring for a Graduate Technologist to join our independent fresh produce client based in Birmingham who source their produce globally. In this role, you will help ensure that the fruit, vegetables and salads grown are sourced, packed and supplied to meet all Legal, Safety, Quality, Ethical and Sustainability standards.

You will work with suppliers around the world, as well as UK retailers, and will have the chance to travel nationally and internationally for audits, visits and training.

Key Qualifications
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, especially Excel
  • Good organisation and attention to detail
  • A proactive approach and willingness to learn
  • Confidence when speaking with suppliers, customers and colleagues
  • Ability to manage tasks accurately and work to deadlines
  • A full, clean driving licence (preferred, but not essential)
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and abroad
Responsibilities
  • Check product quality and understand seasonal changes
  • Keep supplier and grower records up to date
  • Support ethical, sustainability and quality requirements across the supply base
  • Help maintain customer and supplier due diligence systems
  • Visit and audit suppliers, packhouses and farms in the UK and internationally
  • Report on product quality issues and provide feedback to suppliers
  • Attend customer meetings and support the wider technical team
  • Manage customer specifications and update internal systems
  • Support new product development and prepare product samples
  • Complete internal and external KPI reports
  • Help with internal audits and follow up actions
  • Take part in trial work, benchmarking and product comparisons
  • Support compliance, risk assessments and food safety standards (HACCP, TACCP, VACCP)
Employment Package
  • Salary between £28,000 - £34,000 depending on experience
  • 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm
  • 20 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays
