A leading mining company seeks a Technician - Primary Plant & Protection Systems. You will be responsible for maintaining safety standards, executing commissioning and maintenance of high voltage systems, and liaising with stakeholders. The position requires a WA "A" Grade Electrical Licence and proficiency in safety and protection systems. About the Role

Reporting to the HV & Power Supervisor, your duties as the Technician - Primary Plant & Protection Systems | WAIO | HV & Power Central | FIFO 7:7 include:

• Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
• Maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
• Execute detailed commissioning and maintenance on complex protection and control systems.
• Execute professional commissioning and maintenance on HV substation primary plant.
• Take responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all network assets.
• Develop Work Instructions, Task Lists, and Procedures for the Primary Plant/Protection System Assets under control of HV & Power, Eastern.
• Ensure safe completion and close-out of Primary Plant/Protection System works on a daily basis.
• Execute critical shutdowns, ensuring trouble-free maintenance windows and handback.
• Operate and switch HV apparatus.
• Initiate and/or participate in continuous improvement projects.
• Liaise with Mine & Town Stakeholders to ensure a safe and efficient service.
• Identify problems and implement solutions to manage departmental and company supply chain risk.

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:

• WA "A" Grade Electrical Licence
• High level of commitment to safety
• Australian C Class Driver's Licence (manual)
• Proven maintenance & commissioning experience in a Power Utility environment - Protection Systems, Switchyards, Primary Plant
• Proven experience with High Voltage/Protection Systems in a Mining environment - highly regarded
• Experience with high voltage switching
• Proficiency with setup, commissioning, and monitoring of various Protection Relay schemes; familiarity with Omicron Protection Equipment is highly regarded
• Experience with computerised maintenance management systems (SAP experience is highly desirable)
• High Risk Work Licence with any/all of WP, CV, LF, Dogging/Rigging endorsements - highly regarded

Location

With this role, you will be fly-in fly-out from Perth to Mining Area C. You will be working on all Central Pilbara Mine sites, operating and maintaining the generation, transmission and distribution electricity network within the Pilbara region.
